Liposuction in Brazil: What It Can Do, Risks and Recovery

Liposuction remains one of the most requested body contouring procedures at Belvivere Plastic Surgery, in Criciúma, Santa Catarina. Dr. June Favarin and Dr. Eduardo Favarin bring 20 years of experience and have cared for more than 8,000 patients from Brazil and other countries, with procedures performed in a hospital setting.

What Liposuction Can and Cannot Do

Liposuction removes localized fat deposits that do not respond well to diet and exercise; it is not a weight-loss procedure or a treatment for loose skin. Good candidates are close to a stable weight, with skin elasticity adequate to adapt to the new contour. This is assessed during a physical evaluation.

Technique and Risks

Several liposuction techniques exist (tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, laser-assisted, among others); the choice depends on the treatment area and the patient’s tissue characteristics. The procedure is performed under anesthesia in an accredited hospital. Risks include irregularities in the treated area, changes in sensation, seroma, and, less commonly, more serious complications, all of which are discussed individually before surgery.

Recovery

Recovery typically involves a compression garment for several weeks, gradual return to activity, and follow-up visits to monitor healing and contour. Final results are usually seen over several months, as swelling resolves. Our team provides a realistic recovery timeline in the consultation and follows up in person during your stay in Criciúma.
