Hospital-based plastic surgery adds resources for anesthesia, monitoring and the management of unexpected events, but a hospital alone does not make an operation risk-free. Safety depends on patient selection, a proportionate surgical plan, qualified teams and structured follow-up.

Why the surgical setting matters

The appropriate setting depends on the procedure, anesthesia plan, expected duration and the patient’s health. Major facial operations and combined procedures require more than an operating room: they require coordinated surgical, anesthesia, nursing and recovery teams.

Safety elementWhy it matters
Preoperative assessmentIdentifies medical conditions, medications, nicotine exposure, weight instability and factors that may require postponement.
Anesthesia team and monitoringSupports airway management, hemodynamic control, temperature control and recovery from anesthesia.
Hospital resourcesProvide access to laboratory, imaging, blood-bank and higher-level support when clinically necessary.
Postoperative observationAllows early recognition of bleeding, respiratory problems, severe nausea or other unexpected findings.
Discharge planningDefines medications, warning signs, responsible adult support and access to the surgical team.

Belvivere procedures at Hospital São José

Belvivere’s plastic surgeries are performed at Hospital São José in Criciúma. The hospital setting supports the operative and immediate recovery phases. Dr. June Favarin’s practice is centered on facial surgery, including individualized combinations of eyelid, brow, midface, lower-face and neck procedures. Dr. Eduardo Favarin performs facial, breast and body surgery according to each patient’s diagnosis and goals.

Technique names do not determine safety by themselves. A Deep Plane facelift, video-assisted brow surgery, Hybrid Blepharoplasty or Deep Neck procedure must be selected according to anatomy, previous treatments, medical risk and the extent of surgery that can reasonably be performed.

What the hospital cannot guarantee

No facility can eliminate hematoma, infection, nerve symptoms, wound-healing problems, anesthesia complications or thromboembolic events. Hospital infrastructure is one part of a wider safety system. The safest recommendation may be to shorten a plan, stage procedures, treat a medical condition first or not operate.

Questions international patients should ask

  • Where will the operation and anesthesia recovery occur?
  • Who will provide anesthesia, and what preoperative assessment is required?
  • How long should I remain near the surgical team?
  • Which symptoms require urgent assessment?
  • What is the plan if I need imaging, readmission or another procedure?

International patients should plan sufficient time in Brazil for in-person follow-up. After major facial surgery, Belvivere generally plans a stay of at least 15 days, adjusted to the operation and recovery. The concierge team can assist with logistics, but medical decisions and emergency instructions remain the responsibility of the clinical team.

A safer decision begins before surgery

Hospital care is valuable because it provides layers of support. It should be evaluated together with surgeon credentials, transparent consent, individualized indication and continuity of care—not used as a promise of a complication-free result.
