Plastic surgery in Brazil can offer experienced professionals and established hospitals, but the country itself is not a guarantee of safety or results. An international patient should verify the surgeon, facility, anesthesia plan, recovery arrangements and continuity of care with the same rigor used at home.
What to verify before booking
| Area | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Surgeon | Training, specialty registration, experience with the proposed operation and who provides follow-up |
| Facility | Where surgery occurs, hospital resources and emergency capability |
| Anesthesia | Who administers it, how risk is assessed and how monitoring is performed |
| Plan | Diagnosis, alternatives, scars, risks, expected limitations and possible revisions |
| Travel | Required stay, companion, appointments and clearance before flying |
A lower price should never be the only reason to travel. Written estimates should clarify hospital, anesthesia, tests, garments, medication, accommodation, postoperative care and what happens if recovery requires additional treatment.
Technique names do not replace diagnosis
Deep Plane facelift, video-assisted brow or midface surgery, Hybrid Blepharoplasty, Deep Neck and fat grafting address different structures. None is universally superior or required. Facial planning should distinguish brow descent, eyelid changes, midface position, jowls, neck anatomy, volume and skin quality. Read how facelift techniques are matched to anatomy.
Medical history and previous procedures
Nicotine, anticoagulants, supplements, anemia, unstable weight, GLP-1 medication and chronic conditions can change risk. Previous fillers, threads, biostimulators, PMMA, silicone and energy devices must be disclosed. Dermatologic ultrasound may be recommended when the product or its plane is uncertain.
Hospital safety and realistic recovery
Major surgery may involve bleeding, infection, thrombosis, wound problems, scars, asymmetry, nerve or eye symptoms, anesthesia complications and revision. Combining procedures increases operating time and recovery demands. At Belvivere, major facial operations are planned at Hospital São José with an anesthesia team and postoperative monitoring.
How long should an international patient stay?
Remote consultation can begin screening, but final planning requires an in-person examination. For major facial procedures, Belvivere commonly plans at least 15 days in Brazil, with the first week in Criciúma, adjusted to the operation and recovery. Clearance to fly does not mean healing is complete. See the preparation checklist and concierge assistance.
A safe decision leaves room to pause
Patients should not be pressured by a promotional deadline, travel booking or package. If the diagnosis, risks, costs, expectations or postoperative plan are unclear, postponing surgery is appropriate. Good care includes the option to recommend a smaller operation, staged treatment or no surgery.
