Brazilian Butt Lift: Safety, Technique and Recovery
A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) reshapes the buttocks using the patient’s own fat, transferred from areas such as the abdomen or flanks. At Belvivere Plastic Surgery, in Criciúma, Santa Catarina, Dr. June Favarin and Dr. Eduardo Favarin bring 20 years of experience and have cared for more than 8,000 patients from Brazil and other countries, with surgeries performed in a hospital setting.
Safety Comes First
Fat grafting to the buttocks carries specific risks if fat is injected too deep, into or below the muscle. Belvivere follows current safety protocols for fat placement, injecting only into safe superficial planes. This is one of the most important safety conversations we have with every patient considering this procedure.
The Procedure
The procedure combines liposuction of donor areas with fat processing and careful re-injection into the buttocks, performed under anesthesia in an accredited hospital. Not all of the transferred fat survives permanently — typically a portion is reabsorbed by the body, which is factored into surgical planning. Risks include asymmetry, irregularities, infection, and, if safety protocols are not followed, more serious complications.
Recovery
Recovery requires avoiding direct pressure on the buttocks for a period of weeks, use of a compression garment for the donor areas, and a gradual return to sitting and activity as guided by your surgical team. Our team provides a realistic recovery timeline during the consultation and follows up in person during your stay in Criciúma.
