Facial-surgery trends change quickly, but safe decision-making should not. The developments worth following are those that improve diagnosis, patient selection, anatomical preservation and continuity of care—not labels that promise smaller scars, faster recovery or universally superior results.

Five durable developments in facial surgery

DevelopmentClinical valueCaution
Anatomy-first planningSeparates tissue descent, volume loss and skin qualityA fashionable technique may still be the wrong treatment
Dermatologic ultrasoundMaps prior injectables and altered tissue planesImaging supports but does not replace examination
Preservation-minded eyelid surgeryProtects orbicularis, volume and eye function“Less removal” still requires precise indication
Regional surgical combinationsAllows upper, mid, lower face and neck to be treated differentlyMore procedures increase risk and recovery demands
Structured international follow-upImproves preparation and postoperative accessConcierge support is not a substitute for medical care

Hybrid Blepharoplasty: preservation rather than a package

Dr. June Favarin’s Hybrid Blepharoplasty combines only the components supported by the examination: conservative upper-eyelid skin treatment with orbicularis preservation, selected transconjunctival lower-eyelid surgery, cantopexy, microfat, nanofat or skin treatment. Brow position, ptosis and ocular health are evaluated separately.

Video-assisted surgery and Deep Plane have different roles

Video-assisted surgery is primarily used for selected brow and midface patterns. Deep Plane is one approach to lower-face tissue descent. Neck Lift and Deep Neck address cervical layers. Presenting these operations as competitors—or calling “ponytail,” “scarless” or “tridimensional” a standardized superior facelift—obscures the anatomical diagnosis.

Prior injectables now influence surgical planning

Fillers, biostimulators, permanent materials, threads and energy treatments can persist or change tissue planes. A complete treatment history and dermatologic ultrasound may influence whether surgery is modified, staged or postponed. Hyaluronidase applies only to hyaluronic acid and does not guarantee complete reversal.

Patient selection is the real advance

Nicotine exposure, unstable weight, rapid GLP-1–associated volume change, uncontrolled disease, poor nutrition, unrealistic expectations or doubt can make postponement safer than surgery. A mature practice is defined partly by when it does not operate.

Recovery information should be specific

Returning to social activities is not the same as final healing. Swelling, numbness, firmness, asymmetry and scar maturation can continue for months. Risks and warning signs should be explained before travel, including how the patient will access care after returning home.

International care at Belvivere

Major procedures are performed at Hospital São José with appropriate anesthesia and monitoring. International patients generally plan at least 15 days in Brazil after major facial surgery, adjusted to recovery. The concierge team supports logistics while the medical team retains responsibility for clinical decisions.
